City of Surrey: Newton – King George Boulevard Land Use Plan

On October 21, 2019, City of Surrey Council authorized the initiation of a land use planning and community consultation process for the Newton – King George Boulevard Land Use Plan. The Land Use Plan area spans between 68 Avenue and 56 Avenue (Highway 10) along the King George corridor. The plan study area is shown in the following image.

The extent of the plan area is primarily designated “Urban” in the City of Surrey Official Community Plan (“OCP”). The plan area is bounded by South Newton Neighbourhood Concept Plan on the east side of King George Boulevard. Parks, schools, public facilities, transportation, and utilities and servicing infrastructure will be evaluated as part of the plan development process.

A draft Newton – King George Boulevard Land Use Plan is expected to be presented to Council for approval in principle in the Spring of 2020. Detailed policies, guidelines for implementation, and servicing will be completed and presented to council in the Winter of 2020.

While the draft Land Use Plan is underway, staff will hold new development applications within the plan area that propose an amendment to the OCP. In-stream applications are permitted to be processed concurrently with the land use planning process as long as the proposals conform to the emerging plan and/or receive Council approval.

The initial Neighbourhood Open House is anticipated in late November to early December of 2019.
